Starting a Small Business
Deciding to start a business is a big decision. Particularly when there is an investment required. How much money is a reasonable amount to invest in this? Will we be able to turn that investment into something successful? Even just mildly successful? I have wanted to try my hand at starting a business for quite a few years, but I never had a concept that lit a fire in me. There are things I love to do, things that I am passionate about. But nothing that could really be turned into a business.
I first encountered photo booths as a kid. Every mall had one. You could fit two people on the seat, put the money in and make a few faces. Then the strip of pictures would print. It was incredible back then, and that idea has been reimagined over the last decade or so. In the age of tech, you can have green screen software, iPads, ring lights, cheap props, the list goes on. I was at a wedding a couple of years ago where there was a travel trailer set up like a traditional Irish pub with real props, a professional camera and beautiful lighting so the postcard size prints looked incredible. I was hesitant when I walked in but that quickly turned into excitement as 8 of us piled in to strike our poses while the timer counted down. When our shots had been snapped, we got 8 copies to pass around. The memory of that experience stirs excitement in me still, and that is the experience that I want to create for others.
I didn’t want to cut any corners with my photo booth. I made sure I would be able to invest in a high-quality camera, printer, backdrop, and tablet before making my move to register as an LLC. I wanted to be sure the quality and experience would be there, even if I couldn’t invest in an airstream initially which was well outside the realm of investment we could make. I wanted to be able to provide a solid photo booth experience for potential clients from the get-go.
It hasn’t been easy, but I have put in a lot of time and energy to make sure the service I am providing is top notch.
